Origins of the band name

Why The Bustling Tram Society?

We’ve had some really great comments about the band name – people seem to love it, which is great news for us. And the question we sometimes get asked is; where did the name come from? So if you’re intrigued by it, then read on to find out…

If you’ve read our other blogs, then you’ll probably already know that by late 2019, I had decided that I needed to record the ideas that were going around my head and that was the start of Mariana’s Café (you can read more about how this came to be in our other blog: Behind the Scenes at Mariana’s Café).

So the ideas were falling into place but there was no band name at that time and this was obviously crucial for a multitude of reasons!

Some musicians can seemingly create awesome band names for fun, but I’ve always found it quite challenging: trying to ensure it captures the right vibe and sense of what the music’s about always seemed tricky.

The brainstorming sessions

I knew the feel the music was creating and I wanted the name to capture the energy generated in the songs, but it also had to include something that could create a sense of community too.

So armed with my thesaurus, a white board and a host of brightly coloured marker pens, I set about capturing all the inner workings of my mind...

And I don’t know why exactly, but the idea of a tram stuffed full of people started to appear...

In my mind, it was a warm day. You're up close and personal with people from different walks of life. Some sound excited; some are in their own world. But for that moment, you're connected to this bunch of people and you're all experiencing it together.

From this image, it was a short step to reach The Bustling Tram.

But that wasn't quite it. It still felt like the community element missing...

Soon after, it came to me.

The Bustling Tram Society.

I feel that it captures everything I was after: the hecticness of life; the energy I want our music to imbue as well as a sense of community.

We’re going on a journey after all and we really hope you’re going to come with us!

But what do you think? Do you like it? Or is it too much of a mouthful for you? Let’s start a conversation: tell us your thoughts over on our Facebook page!
